The Platinum #3776 Century Chartres Blue features a cap and body made from a rich translucent blue resin which emulates the colors of the stained glass windows illuminating Chartres Cathedral in France.

The Century line features the innovative, patented-pending “Slip & Seal” inner cap mechanism that prevents the ink from drying out in the nib for up to 24 months.

The Chartres Blue is available in 8 nib widths: UEF, EF, F, SF, M, B, Coarse (Double Broad), and Music. To select this pen with the Music nib, please visit this page. The Coarse nib is one of the best candidates available on the market for achieving maximum line variation with a custom architect grind.

Includes cartridge and converter.

Select Nib Width

Platinum's nibs are remarkably consistent, offering moderate ink flow and a smooth writing sensation. Choose from sizes Ultra Extra Fine, Extra Fine, Fine, Soft Fine, Medium, Broad, Coarse (Double Broad), or Music.

The Curved Architect grind should be selected on Platinum Coarse or Sailor Zoom nibs for best results. The Curved Architect grind is functionally identical to the Naginata-Togi and Goccia nibs offered by other brands and is in no way associated with those brands.

Orders with “No adjustment. Ship ASAP!” and “Tune & Smooth” ship in 3-5 business days. All other nib customizations ship in 7-9 weeks.

Description

SLIP & SEAL MECHANISM

It has normally been thought difficult to make an airtight pen with a screw-type cap. If not sealed tightly, the following problems can result:

  1. Ink drying out due to moisture evaporation.
  2. Problems with dried ink if the pen is not used for three to six months.
  3. It can be necessary to clean the pen using the Platinum Ink Cleaner Kit or even to repair or replace the nib itself if the damage due to dried ink is too severe.

At the request of customers, Platinum Pen Company have gone back to the basics to deal with this problem. This is the first fountain pen which has their unique “Slip & Seal” structure in a pen with a screw-type cap. Thanks to this innovation, currently being patented, it is possible to have a screw-type cap with complete airtightness.

The innovative cap contains a unique “Slip & Seal” mechanism that prevents ink from drying out in the pen. Meanwhile, a newly redesigned nib and feed regulate the ink flow. Founded in 1919, Platinum Pens is now nearing a full century of achievement. The #3776 “Century” celebrates this approaching anniversary and continues Platinum Pens’ tradition of technological innovation. With Platinum Pens, the pleasure of writing and the use of fine writing instruments will always be evolving.

The #3776“ Century” Fountain Pen. What qualities make for the ideal contemporary fountain pen? Sleek design, comfortable writing balance, smooth flow, and fast-drying ink… At the request of customers, we at Platinum Pen have gone back to the basics to address these issues. Every part and mechanism has been carefully studied and re-engineered. The result is the #3776 “Century,” designed on the base model of the popular #3776 series pens.

  1. Alvaro Cadena (verified owner)

Dan did a fantastic job on my new Platinum # 3776 Chartres Blue. The tuning and smoothing was right on target to my writing. Previously I purchased the same pen from him on the Bourgogne and was so happy that I decided to complemented it with the Chartres.
The turn around of the order was outstanding.
I have collected over the years Pelikans and Montblancs and Parkers both new ones and older and some special editions, the platinum 3776 Century is now my go to pen. The nib is smooth and the flow is not wet or dry.

  2. Randy R (verified owner)

Dan’s work, communication and dedication were phenomenal — he even did this work very quickly over the Christmas / New Years’ Holidays in spite of trying to take time off for himself and his family! (I probably shouldn’t have said that and I do NOT intend to commit him to repeating that in the future, but he did do it this time.) His replies have been equally quick, friendly and directly to the point.

In this case, not only is the Chartres Blue (Platinum Century 3776) color every bit as attractive but still reasonably “subtle” as I had hoped, but my first Double Broad (Coarse) nib is awesome — and it even performs magnificently with a finer line in the “reverse writing” mode as the legendary SBRE Brown frequently demonstrates in his videos! It writes beautifully – currently inked with Akkerman’s Shocking Blue #5. (Sorry Doctor SBRE Brown, if you’re listening, I’ll use your ink next! Grin)

Dan and Platinum did very well.

Thank you for taking the time for this during the Christmas holiday season! Happy New Year to you as well.
