This is my first Pelikan and certainly not the last. What attracted me was the tortoise brown color as it looks so nice with gold trim. The pen is on the smaller side and yet I have no issues writing with my medium size hands. I asked Dan to make sure that it was juicy and not a gusher and that is exactly what I got. The nib is firm and “glides on ice” – so smooth. Love this pen.
I love getting my pens from Dan. He does fantastic nib work and is always available to answer questions.

First thing first, Pelikan makes some high quality writing instruments, coming from Montblanc pens, I see these fall no short of those, and that’s saying something, plus their clip design and filling system is, in my humble opinion, is best in class.
The pen at hand looks and feels much smaller than pictures indicate (nothing to do with Dan’s pics, which are some of the nicest I’ve seen on the web), but I personally do think that this is the ideal size a pen should be, its nice and compact in the pocket, but thick enough and long enough when posted (I mean, come on! what are you going to do with that cap while writing anyway?…), and in my opinion this nib size is also nicer than some bigger nibs, both ascetically and technically (but that’s really a personal thing).
Now for Dan’s job, it was a long wait (as long as the banner states, no longer) but a well worth one, the nib writes perfectly, putting down a nice consistent line, but it is well controlled and not overly wet, just right!
Mine is a cursive italic that started it’s life as a fine nib, it now writes like a western extra fine on it’s wide side, and even so it offers beautiful line variation, I wouldn’t say it writes buttery smooth, but the friction would be best described as “tooth” or “feedback” rather than scratchiness, all in all it is very comfortable to write with, and the “tooth” is all but expected with such a grind, and has something cool to it once you get the hang of it.
Finally I’d like to thank Dan for his excellent advice and customer service, and TONS of patience… this is the type of people it’s just a pleasure to work with!
(do note that the cellulose acetate the barrel is made from is a softer material than the typical resin and thus is a little bit of a micro-scratch magnet, for me personally it’s by no means a dealbreaker, but just as to let people know)
