Available on backorder

The model presented here is a Platinum 3776, the Japanese company’s flagship model, with a Tortoise pattern celluloid body.

Celluloid, one of the earliest thermo plastics, is becoming an extinct base material for pen making – regretfully as it has beautiful density, shine, weight and of course features the most vibrant and sometimes psychedelic patterns. Today it is used only in a handful of industries including luxury spectacle making. The production of celluloid in Japan has nearly now entirely stopped – making this model harder and harder to get ahold of and made in very small quantities by Platinum.

On the writing front – this pen features a 14k gold nib. Whereas nearly all pen makers worldwide subcontract their nibs to specialist factories – the Japanese – namely Pilot, Sailor and Platinum produce theirs in house making truly amazing nibs of great smoothness and weightless feel. When choosing the nib size, please bear in mind Japanese nibs run on the finer side in comparison to European ones.

The 3776 Tortoise is available in 7 nib widths: UEF, EF, F, SF, M, B, and Coarse (Double Broad). The Coarse nib is one of the best candidates available on the market for achieving maximum line variation with a custom architect grind.

Includes cartridge and converter.

The “Tune & Smooth” nib customization is the only recommended customization for the Ultra Extra Fine nib.

If choosing the Curved Architect grind, the Platinum Coarse or Sailor Zoom nibs will provide the best results. The Curved Architect grind is functionally identical to the Naginata-Togi and Goccia nibs offered by other brands and is in no way associated with those brands.

Orders with “No adjustment. Ship ASAP!” and “Tune & Smooth” ship in 3-5 business days. All other nib customizations ship in 7-9 weeks.

Reduce the processing time of nib customizations from 7-9 weeks to 5-7 business days.

Description

The original #3776 series was designed by the late writing expert Haruo Umeda, known as “Mr.Fountain Pen,” along with the design team at Platinum Pen Company. Their aim was simple, to create the ideal fountain pen.

The #3776 was made available to the public beginning in 1978. After just six months, over 150,000 pens had been sold and its popularity has been maintained ever since. #3776 expresses the height in meters of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan.
