S.T. Dupont adds the Atelier Natural Lacquer to their finest collections. An authentic urushi lacquer is hand gathered and blended like wine by their master lacquerers. This type of lacquer has a sheen and depth that no synthetic can equal. Using an age-old technique called Popot, the urushi lacquer is then hand-applied over a solid brass body, distributed evenly to ensure a silk-like feel and a high resistance to scratches and heat. Each pen is then engraved with a tree leaf symbol to display that the urushi lacquer is authentic. Details such as the date 1953 and the Dupont winged wheel symbol are etched on each piece to notate the founding date of the Favergee workshop. Handcrafted in France, the blue urushi lacquer finish is adorned with gold-plated fittings. When opening and closing the pen, their signature ‘pop’ sound can be heard.
Each fountain pen receives over 150 handcrafted operations and controls to ensure writing perfection. The fountain pen features S.T. Dupont’s famous ‘click’ to echo their famous lighter ‘cling’. The fountain pen is enhanced with the S.T. Dupont 14kt gold nib available in sizes EF, F, M, B, and fills via cartridge/converter.
With the natural lacquer exclusive patina effect, each piece is one of a kind. While the procedure remains the same, the result is always different. Depending on the color contrasts obtained, the handmade production process gives the product its very own depth and soul.
