Lamy and sieger design have successfully created a completely new interpretation of the classic fountain pen: The new LAMY scala series.

Heidelberg, March 2012. Presenting Lamy’s modern archetype: the LAMY scala. This series consists of fountain pens and ballpoint pens and is the result of the initial teamwork between Lamy and sieger design. The LAMY scala combines clear form with emotional details and highly functional technology with a writing instrument that has pioneering character.

Located at Harkotten Castle in the Münsterland region, sieger design has already proven their abilities with their work for WMF, Duravit and Dornbracht. The creative mastermind behind the designs is Managing Director Michael Sieger. An industrial designer, his work has already received many awards. He creates extraordinary designs for daily life while keeping the focus centred on functionality. With the LAMY scala, he has created a writing instrument which features a pleasantly minimal and simplistic design while maintaining the highest standards in technical solutions.

Precision and Emotional Details

The cylindrical body of the LAMY scala is made of high-grade stainless steel. The material creates the pen’s perfect weighting, which in turn makes for an extraordinarily comfortable writing experience. The unconventional relations and proportions of the different contrasting surfaces easily set it apart from all other classical fountain pens. While the body features a matt-black finish, the surfaces of the grip, cap and top of the barrel shine in high-gloss chrome. This creates a kind of optical tension and provides the LAMY scala an emotionality of its very own. The solid, rectangular clip is the technical highlight of the LAMY scala. It is also in high-gloss chrome and its end lines up perfectly with the top of the fountain pen. This gives the impression of the clip naturally “growing” out of the writing instrument – a challenge solved with high-precision technical solutions.

The clip is spring-loaded and so has both a smooth gliding motion as well as an excellent clamping function. A discreetly engraved Lamy logo at the top end of the clip completes the design.

Exciting contrasts and technical precision – the new Lamy scala series is an entirely new interpretation of the classic fountain pen. The new archetype will be available starting in March 2012 as a fountain pen and as a ballpoint pen – other writing system models will follow.
