Brilliant design and ingenious engineering combine in the refined, elegant style of the world’s first and favorite retractable fountain pen, the Vanishing Point by Pilot. The internal mechanism of this exceptionally crafted fountain pen allows the 18-karat gold nib to retract fully into the barrel when not in use. The Pilot Vanishing Point is refillable for continued use with a cartridge or Pilot’s CON-40 converter.
The black carbonesque Pilot Vanishing Point fountain pen with rhodium trim comes standard with a rhodium-plated 18k gold nib in EF, F, M, B or Stub widths. Alternatively, the rhodium-plated nib can be swapped for an 18k yellow gold nib (F, M, or B) or an 18k gold black-plated nib (EF, F, M, B, or Factory Stub), at no additional charge.
Includes one cartridge and CON-40 twist converter.

I just received my Pilot VP in black carbonesque. I ordered the black extra fine nib tuned and smoothed by Dan. It is an excellent writer –Thanks! The extra fine nib is wonderful for small notations in my field and lab notebooks, and keeps my line a decent width even on cheap paper (which I can not avoid in my job). Not all folks may like a nib this fine, but this is my second VP because it is the only pen (outside of a custom grinding) that I have found fits my needs. The relief finish on this pen is lovely and hard to capture in pictures. It has just a little texture as opposed to being smooth like the other VPs.
Nice work Dan! Thank you.

All I can say is I’m very impressed with Dan Smith and his service. Even though my order was held back a couple weeks due to him having to receive more stock of this pen, he went ahead and sent me a free 50mL bottle of Iroshizuku Shin-Kai ink. If that isn’t top notch care for customers then I don’t know what is.
Dan will have my future business in nib grinding and perhaps other pens.
You will not regret buying from Dan!

The Pilot VP (medium nib) I purchased from Dan (tuned and smoothed) is an entire level above any other gold nib pen I’ve used in terms of smoothness and flow. It exactly suits my preferences and writes beautifully – probably the closest I’ve felt to “glass on paper” smooth, especially on high quality paper.
As for the pen itself – for the longest time I was debating between this (Black Kasuri/Carbonesque, which I had never seen in person before) and the Matte Black Pilot VP. I’m very glad I went with the Kasuri/Carbonesque finish – the textured surface is stunning and seems to be more wear resistant than the Matte Black (there are many pictures of Matte Black VPs with the metal underneath showing through. Some people like that look, but it’s not my thing).
I couldn’t be more pleased with this pen. Thank you Dan!
