The Aurora Optima Demonstrator fountain pen is available in a limited edition of 1936 pieces, corresponding to the year in which the Optima was first introduced.

This special writing instrument is constructed of 100% crystal clear resin to all visibility to all its internal parts! One feature that shouldn't be overlooked is Aurora's unique piston filling system which provides an small reserve of ink that's accessible by extending the piston mechanism, providing enough ink for several more pages of writing after the pen initially runs dry. An added benefit to this design is that the filling knob remains extended, acting as a reminder to refill the pen. Please view the video in the product description below for a more detailed explanation.

The Aurora Optima Red Demonstrator is available in 7 different nib widths, EF-BB, Factory Stub, and Factory Italic, all made from 18k gold. In addition to the variety of nib widths available, you can select a FREE NIB ADJUSTMENT OR CUSTOMIZATION of your choice from the list below.

Select Nib Width

Individual nib units for the Aurora Optima and 88 are easily interchangeable and well suited for customization. The large, rhodium plated, 18k gold nib is made entirely in house by Aurora as is the ebonite feed that's paired with each nib. Choose from sizes EF, F, Fine Flex, M, B, BB, OBB, Factory Stub, or Factory Italic. There are also three new Chinese Calligraphy nibs (CE, CF, and CM) that are ground from the factory similarly to a Sailor Naginata Togi.

This pen qualifies for FREE nib customization – a complimentary service offered only from the Nibsmith.
Orders with “No adjustment. Ship ASAP!” and “Tune & Smooth” ship in 3-5 business days. All other nib customizations ship in 7-9 weeks.

Reduce the processing time of nib customizations from 7-9 weeks to 5-7 business days.

1 review for Aurora Optima Demonstrator Limited Edition Fountain Pen

  1. Antonio Zirión (verified owner)

I purchased this pen as a gift for me, made by a good friend of mine. We (my friend and I) decided to buy the pen in The Nibsmith site because it offers with the pen a customization of the nib and we knew about the good nib jobs made by Dan Smith. This was to be my first pen with a special nib, and at the same time the nib had to be kept as finer as possible. Dan suggested a cursive italic nib made from an extrafine nib. The result is outstanding. The pen writes beautifully, and smoothly, just with a quite special feedback from the paper which is a delight to feel. And, moreover, it has a perfect ink flow, regular and constant. The nib requires, of course, a learning process, due to the combination of thin horizontal strokes and wider vertical strokes. I am still in this process, and I attribute to it the really scarce and minor false starts that once in a while occur while writing.

The pen is itself a very beautiful and high quality pen in all respects. Dan Smith’s work on it was able to enhance it in a wonderfully manner,
