The barrel is made by hand from sheets of celluloid which are rolled into the shape of the barrel rather than cast as blocks. Making the barrel in this way means that the craftsman can see the patterns in the celluloid prior to making the pen, allowing for the best variations in design to be achieved. It also means that there may be subtle differences between the pen you receive and the image shown here. As the celluloid is rolled into shape, there is a visible seam on each pen where the two ends of the celluloid meet.
The production of celluloid pens is time-consuming as each celluloid piece needs to be thoroughly dried over the course of at least 6 months to guarantee that the material will not warp or deform.
The 3776 Jade is available in 7 nib widths: UEF, EF, F, SF, M, B, and Coarse (Double Broad). The Coarse nib is one of the best candidates available on the market for achieving maximum line variation with a custom architect grind. When choosing the nib size, please bear in mind that Japanese nibs run about a size narrower when compared to European pens. A Japanese fine nib will be similar in width to a European extra fine, a Japanese medium will be similar to a European fine, a Japanese broad will be similar to a European medium, etc.
Includes cartridge and converter.
