The Platinum Izumo Bombay Black Wood Tagayasan fountain pen is an outstanding example of Japanese craftsmanship.

The barrel is hand-made from tagayasan (Bombay Blackwood), a variety of rosewood. Unlike the other pens in the Izumo range, the matte tagayasan doesn’t have an urushi lacquer coating. Instead, the pen is polished and left uncoated to allow you to feel the natural wood surface.

The large 18k, two-tone gold nib is normally only available in three widths (F, M, and B) but the Nibsmith is proud to be able to offer all six widths the President nib is available in: Ultra Extra Fine, Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, and Coarse (Double Broad). No other retailer offers as many nib options.

Each Platinum Izumo fountain pen is packaged in a wooden box with a pen kimono and includes a single cartridge and converter.

The Curved Architect grind should be selected on Platinum Coarse or Sailor Zoom nibs for best results. The Curved Architect grind is functionally identical to the Naginata-Togi and Goccia nibs offered by other brands and is in no way associated with those brands.

The Platinum Pen Company was born in Shimane, Izumo-no-kuni. Company founder Shunichi Nakata christened the “Izumo” collection of fountain pens in 2010 with the blessing of city officials and to acknowledge the company’s origins. The city has in turn recognised the Platinum Izumo as one of the city’s designated “Izumo brands”.
