The state-of-the-art Kaga maki-e decoration is done by Kaga maki-e artist Sohkou Ooshita, all hand crafted through several months of work and with highly skilled technique.
Kaga maki-e was developed in the Edo period as one of the techniques used for art crafts for the feudal lords such as “inro (a small lacquer box)” or tea utensils. These art crafts remain highly respected globally from their elegant style even today.
Hira maki-e technique is applied, in which over the patterned urushi undercoating, the proper powders are chosen out of several dozen types of gold and silver powders and then sprinkled over. It expresses magnificently a representation of Japanese landscaping of the pine shore and the ocean waves.
The Platinum Izumo Hama no Matsu features the large 18k, two-tone gold nib normally only available in three widths (F, M, and B), but the Nibsmith is proud to be able to offer all six widths the President nib is made in: Ultra Extra Fine, Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, and Coarse (Double Broad). No other retailer offers as many nib options.
Each Platinum Izumo fountain pen is packaged in a wooden box with a pen kimono and includes a single cartridge and converter.
